This year Santa has gone online with an automated present delivery system.
With the elves overseeing present distribution, Santa’s taking a well-earned vacation in Queenstown. But wait! There’s been a malfunction and Santa must save the day. But where oh where will Santa find presents while on a vacation in Queenstown?
This work was created at Shotover Media
This project started with a trip to a thrift shop, a location scout on the outskirts of Queenstown, and a curated wardrobe of fit for Kiwiana Santa aka flip flops and red plaid. To portray mission control, we wanted to create a space that looked like a futuristic north pole, whilst still retaining a sense of make-believe. Cue: oversized buttons, colourful light flares, piping smoke with big modern screens, industrial scaffolding and a makeshift control centre.
On the flipside, Santa himself was on holiday, so while we wanted him to be the best kiwi version of himself he also had to maintain the look of the Saint Nick we know and love. So while he’s fishing down by the bach in a pair of jandals and a classic straw hat, he still sports that fantastic white beard and jolly ho-ho’ing belly.
